REVIEW SUMMARY

The small hatchback and sedan segment is rather crowded, and Audi wants a bigger slice of the cake. The A3 is actually the best seller for the German premium brand, accounting for 25% of Audi’s total sales.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words German and premium? Luxury perhaps, or poshness?

That’s exactly what we need to figure out – whether or not the Audi A3 2.0 TFSI Sedan is as premium as it claims to be. So, without further ado, let’s dive into action!

Safety

Teutonic engineering is known for its pragmatic and foolproof approach to automobile manufacturing. And perhaps if I told you that the A3 is a pretty safe car, it wouldn’t shock you.

Well, ANCAP Safety gives a full five-star rating to the current A3 model. Ja! Pardon my German, but this is one safe little car!

Price

As it’s all about luxury here, so quite logically the A3 comes with only one gearbox – a seven speed auto. They’re not playing around, that’s for sure!

Unfortunately, this also means that the price for this car is also rather premium – $48,000. You can buy roughly two (albeit basic models) Corollas for this amount!

But hey, maybe the A3 2.0 TFSI Sedan is jam-packed with technology and neat gadgets that help you rationalize the hefty price tag.

Features

While some cheaper small sedans (Subaru’s, Mazda’s etc.) have standard kit that’s missing on the Audi, like a start button, cruise control etc., it still offers decent equipment:

  • Xenon headlights
  • Leather sports seats
  • Aluminium trim inlays plus door sill protectors
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Eight-speaker stereo
  • 7.0-inch display with Sat Nav
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Pretty decent I’d say. Although you might wonder if it’s not the Audi badge that make up most of the price. Anyways, you can opt for additional extras by getting the $2900 Technik pack, which consists of:

  • The Audi Virtual Cockpit
  • Sports steering wheel
  • An improved Navi system with live maps plus five free updates
  • Two SD card slots and a 10 GB (gigabytes) music storage

Pros and cons

Alright, time for the Biddly pros and cons. Audi A3, are you ready? Let’s hope you are! Starting with what we like about it:

  • Responsive and frugal engine
  • Quality interior
  • Decent safety equipment

After some praise, we now have to bring the A3 Sedan back to earth:

  • Only available with an automatic gearbox
  • Could offer more kit for this price tag
  • Tight back seats

Verdict

Ah, the Audi is definitely a competent little car with elegant yet aggressive looks and nimble handling.

Every time you enter the premium territory, you’re bound to come across an Audi. And while the A3 2.0 TFSI Sedan might not be a cheap car (you get what you pay for, for the most part), it’s well-built and comes with a top safety rating.

Yes, it looks cool both inside the cabin and when you’re looking at the from outside, but does it justify the solid price tag? Probably, but it would’ve been nice if Audi decided to include more tech as standard.
